Commodore's Welcome

Welcome to the Alberg 30 website in the year of the association's 50th anniversary.

Either you are a member already, you own an Alberg 30 and you are interested in joining this association or you are simply drawn to inquire about the Alberg 30 because you have fallen in love with her classic lines and would like to sail one yourself. In any way you are at the right address. Find out more about this beautiful sloop and a group of people who feel passionate about this seaworthy vessel, exciting racer and well built cruiser.

I invite you to browse through these pages. Are you interested in cruising, racing, maintenance, and/or the social aspect of our association? Please feel free to contact our Cruising Commodore, Racing Commodore, Vice Commodore or me if you have any questions.

The Highlight of this year will be the 50th Anniversary Parade in downtown Annapolis at 11:00am on August 9th and an Oldtimer's Race the following day. This event is hosted by the city of Annapolis and the National Sailing Hall of Fame. Please join us for this event, visit many of the boats and meet a fantastic group of sailors!

This Old Boat book cover This Old Boat by Don Casey

Subtitled "turn a rundown fiberglass boat into a first-class yacht on a shoestring budget," this book is the best introduction I know boat maintenance for the new or prospective owner of a "modern classic" sailboat. Starting with guidelines for selecting a boat, Casey proceeds to fiberglass repairs, cabin and deckwork, spars and rigging, boat equipment, woodwork, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, painting, canvas work and sails. All of this is described in clear, simple terms perfect for the inexperienced. This is the book that taught me fiberglass work. But don't let it fool you; this book is appropriate for experienced boatowners, too. I still refer to it.
