Privacy Resources

Here are some links for further information:

  • The Privacy Foundation exists to publicize threats to personal privacy.
  • Steve Gibson (who wrote the SpinRite utility) offers Shields UP, which tests your vulnerability from the web. He also offers OptOut, a free utility to let you know when one of your programs is surreptitiously spying on you.
  • The Privacy Forum provides some websites and news reports of interest.
  • I find the Computer Risks Digest extremely interesting. It contains discussions on all types of risks in computer systems, including privacy.
These resources are all pretty old. The problems with malware on the internet has only gotten worse, and this page hasn't kept up to date.
South: The Endurance Expedition South: The Endurance Expedition

Shackleton's near-fatal journey to the Antarctic has received a lot of press in recent years. This is Shackleton's own account—quiet, understated, and riveting. It also describes the travails of the Aurora expedition, intended to lay the groundwork for Shackleton on the other side of the continent.
